Project goal: The setup and demonstration of a seamless climate information system with a time horizon up to 30yr. The research will encompass: understanding and attribution of various processes along the timescales and their impact on predictability, new ways of initialisation of the prediction systems, merging predictions with projections, provision of regional information for Europe by downscaling using statistical methods and HighRes models, and innovative post-processing methods enhancing the skill and robustness of the climate forecasts.

Project goal: Development of the European framework for Earth’s climate system modelling and climate services through: coordination of the European climate modelling, climate observations and climate services infrastructure initiatives; establishment of multi-disciplinary expert groups to assess the state of the art in Earth’s climate system modelling and climate services in Europe, including the identification of new challenges and future needs; and improvement of communication and expansion of activities with stakeholders through the organization of various events, preparation of reports, etc.

Project goal: Improving drought response in emergencies and enhancing drought preparedness by introducing recently developed risk monitoring and assessment mechanisms; developing a cooperative and interactive Drought User Service; harmonizing methodologies for risk and impact assessment based on the existing achievements in the region and the EU guidelines in the framework of civil protection mechanisms; and strengthening the capacities of stakeholders at different levels, especially decision making authorities in the field of drought management.

Project goal: SEERISK goal is to reveal the contradictions and deficiencies in the institutional, legal and methodological framework of risk mapping (4th specific obj. of ToR). We aim to increase the dialogue between data producers and users, to make a synthesis on risk assessment practice, generate discussions by sharing own experience and finding new structural solutions on various decision making levels, transnationally.
