BIOMEТЕОRОLОGY

Biometeorology is the part of meteorology that studies the influences of weather and climate on man, animals and plants.

Human biometeorology is the part of biometeorology that deals with studying the influences of weather and climate on human life and health.

BIOMETEOROLOGICAL FORECAST

Biometeorological forecast is the final product of applied research related to medical meteorology and human biometeorology. This is multidiscipline area with equal contribution from forecaster, biometeorologist and physician. Biometeorological forecast serves to upgrade the life of man and to improve his feeling of health and wellbeing. It is possible to correctly plan the activities for several deys ahead using it as the basis.
If the recommendation of bioforecaster is that certain group of sick should avoid on certain day great physical or psychological efforts, then it becomes necessary to make such changes in duties so as to plan them for some other day when weather situation would be more favourable for them. In that way it will become possible to avoid additional detrimental influence on difficulties caused by basic illness.
If forecasted biometeorological conditions are favourable for certain group of sick people, it is necessary to plan for that day more important and difficult tasks, because additional favourable influence of weather conditions will make possible more easier and faster carrying out of such tasks.
Psychological effects of biometeorological forecasting on sick is also very important. If a sick man receives competent information that his pains and difficulties are increased due to weather conditions, he can wait for these unfavourable conditions to pass and expect the decrease of his difficulties.

ISSUING WARNINGS ON ATTENTION OR AGAINST DANGER FROM WARMTH OR COLD

Biometeorological forecasts contain warnings on attention, special attention, danger or special danger for days when effective temperature is within limits of unfavourable values for human body. Effective temperature represents a measure of our subjective feeling of real air temperature. That feeling is considerably different from actual temperature in winter period due to the influence of great wind speed, and in summer due to great relative humidity. Sometimes in winter these differences reach even several tenths of a degree. In summer period, in cooperation with physicians, warnings are given to certain groups of sick on hot and humid conditions that are particularly unfavourable to their health. In such situations, practical behaviour recommendations are given to groups of sick under risk.
